Delayed Speech Case Study

Greg's feeding problem may be contributing to his delayed speech because he lacks some of the necessary nutrients for his proper growth and development. The first three years of a child's life are crucial for the fundamental development of the body. Therefore, the fact that Greg hasn't been eating healthy foods may be a reason for his lack of speech. Moreover, the child’s movement of the lips, cheeks and tongue may have a problem. It may be another reason for his delayed speech. The child should undertake oral motor skills to help improve the strength of these parts as well as their proper movement. The child’s preference of soft foods and liquids may be because his mouth muscle walls are weak and not well formed. Although Greg is growing well and appears to be meeting all his energy requirements, the fact that he has delayed speech is worrying. Therefore, it would be wrong just to ignore the issue and wait for him to mature hoping his picky eating problem will go away. Greg should also consume enough water to avoid dehydration. Although Greg is meeting his daily energy requirement, he may not be getting all the necessary nutrients. Vitamin E is essential, and it should be present in Greg's diet. Greg should also take food containing minerals such as calcium, potassium, and magnesium which are micronutrients. His diet is high in vitamins B and C due to the juices he takes, but he also needs minerals as well as vitamin A for proper growth.
