In the first anecdote, all attempts to rescue the stranded laborers failed and were eventually abandoned; after the fact, the owner of the mine stated in a press conference that “‘had [he] known that this evil mountain, this alive mountain, would do what it did, [he] never would have sent the miners in there’” (34-35). Humans have caused infinite destruction to the once pristine Earth, and by doing so they have weakened it beyond repair. Here, the Earth is retaliating by beguiling the miners and encasing them beneath its flesh, sealing them off to their terrible fate forever. The premise that Planet Earth is a conscious being can also be seen in Church’s final account, where miners are confined underground during a flood and are forced to retreat to “a small womb of air against the rising flood” (250-251).…

This brings me back to the first concept I wrote about which was how incredibly small and unimportant I am in the whole scope of things. If our earth would be gone, most of the universe would go on with its usual business. When I was young, I would practice counting to 100 and think of how many that was. To me it seemed like that was the maximum and there was nothing past that. As I grew older and learned more numbers, I kept thinking about how large the numbers were getting and how tiny the smaller numbers were getting.…

We must change the way we think, behave and live among other species. As we learned, man was created for the world and not the other way around, so it should be our mission to leave the world in a more harmonious and sustainable way. Our mission should be to change the minds, actions and habits of present and future generations toward the environment. Many environmentalist have stated that, we have to protect human health and our environment by reducing artificial climate change, air pollution, land availability, soil erosion and water scarcity. We must adopt the same principle that John Stuart Mill promoted which is “we as a people have a moral duty to increase good for the greater number of people”.…

Over the past century we have seen not only our population skyrocket, but also our technological capacity increase exponentially. My worldview, primarily eco-centric, is focused on the incredible potential of technology to create sustainable harmony between humanity and the earth. We have gotten to a point in our evolution where it will be impossible to revert to our pre-industrial state. Our resources are limited and should not be wasted, this traces back to the fundamental property of the universe: energy and matter cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be converted between forms. So much matter is wasted and converted into a state in which it is impossible to recover it, and instead of draining the earth we should be focusing on developing inexhaustible…

In the text, “Earth Day,” Claudia Atticot and Alexandra Manning state “Americans use about 69 million tons of paper and paperboard each year.” Recycling or reusing one ton of paper could save approximately fifteen trees.” There are some who believe that Earth Day is not a necessity. However, Earth Day is still necessary and should be observed because Earth Day teaches people about environmental issues, recycling can make a difference, and Americans treat the environment poorly.…

I don’t think that there could be life outside of Earth. After reading the article I believe that Proxima B would be hazardous to the human population or kind. That planet is too far away from Earth so it would take awhile to land on the planet. I honestly believe the reason why we need another planet to live on is because we have ruined our own planet, and what if we do the same to the others. We have ruined our own planet from global warming, and we continue to do so.…

Additionally, I believe the same things about Earth, and it is difficult for me to imagine that Earth will ever show redeeming qualities that will allow us to contact other lifeforms in the universe without starting a war. These misconceptions are mostly from taking history classes, and learning about the conflicts that each nation gets into when trying to expand or gain better economic wealth. However, these misconceptions might help me, in that they “prepare for the worst” in case of conflict with…

The Earth is currently facing detrimental environmental issues. These issues have been evident for decades; however, many people have continuously denied them to be problematic or even their existence entirely. While these critics have managed to get away with the rejection of these problems for many years, it is no longer deniable that the issue of environmental degradation is very real and in need of immediate action. Much of the population has come to understand this, and have executed a variety of modest attempts to increase environmental sustainability. However, these efforts have demonstrated to be of minimal effect in solving the large-scale issues directly causing the degradation.…

Have you ever walked down the road and seen hundreds of cans and bottles that were just tossed out the window? The earth is being polluted more and more each day as people are tossing their trash on the ground. Millions of dollars are spent every year, making simple things such as plastic bottles, because people are sending them to landfills instead of recycling bins. The earth is becoming a dirty place and it is already beginning to impact us. The best ways to make the earth cleaner are to recycle, buy reusable items, and stop littering.…
