In our society, we are allowed to adopt and turn in an application, but we are allowed to have our own children. In the book they didn't allow people to have their own birth children. In my opinion I would not enjoy having to be accepted just to have a child, but again, some parents aren't capable to have children of their own. The giver is very different then our society because of how many children they can have and that they had to have an application to be accepted to have a child. If their application is not accepted, they will not be able to take home a child.
Another example of our society and the Givers society that is different is the rules and laws. In the Giver, it talks about how long it takes for the people to change the rules and even add them in. On page, 13 and 14 it states, ¨A committee was studying the idea. When something went to a committee for study, the people always joked about it.
