During the first few weeks of junior year, I was put under the most stress that I have ever experienced in my life. The workload from all my AP classes was never ending and there was an enormous amount of studying to be done. I usually went to sleep around one or two in the morning during the school week due to the accumulation of swim, studying, volunteering, and school related activities. Whenever I went to school, I had difficulties focusing because I was extremely exhausted. After just a month of school, I had only one A,the rest were C’s and B’s. I was practically a straight A student all my life so seeing these grade greatly lowered my self confidence. Fearing that my grades and would fall even further, I reluctantly decided to drop an AP class. I was humiliated that I had to drop a class, but I hoped it would free up some time and help me raise my terrible grades. Dropping an AP class assisted my need to improve my grades. Unfortunately, since I was not able to fully comprehend the material that was taught in first semester in the majority of my classes second semester more grueling than I anticipated. However, horrified that my GPA dropped significantly, I made sure I did everything I could to receive the highest grades. I constantly asked my teachers and friends to help me whenever I needed it. I made sure I was going to sleep around eleven or midnight so that I could perform well. To cope with stress, I would often sneak out to my backyard for a few minutes as a little retreat .Smelling the fresh air, hearing the birds chirp, and just taking in the magnificence of the natural world put me and ease and gave me the energy to study. I also began to have time to interact with my family and my friends, helping me to mend our once weak relationship. Though I did not end up with straight A’s, I did receive high solid B’s in courses in which I had C’s in last

Middle school can be an odd and rough time for kids, as they change from being sheltered youth to responsible young adults. I failed miserably at handling that transition. The classes taught in middle school were supposed to be easy, especially now that I look in retrospect. Yet, I regularly brought home B’s and low A’s, at best, on my report card. I had barely challenged myself in middle school, if at all.…

My grades this past year were and are not indicative of who I am as a student, or as a person in general. My junior year of high school, I decided to do PSEO, thinking it was an easy way to get credits for both high school and college. I did not realize the struggle I was going to have just trying to be accountable for myself during my senior year. My daily schedule consisted of work, soccer, managing the high school boy’s hockey team, volunteer work, spending time with my high school friends and taking college courses. I took the most challenging classes through Anoka-Ramsey Community College, thinking that like high school these would be the best for me.…

For my second personal mini experiment, I chose an exercise from chapter ten that is labeled “Searching for Absorption: Finding Flow in Your School Day.” I chose this personal mini experiment because, with all the technology that is readily available and open for us to use it can be quite difficult finding time to actually sit down to do homework without interruptions. The experiment consists of taking a break from all screen time for two days so, this means no television, and no Internet surfing or instant messaging is allowed during this time period. Day one consisted of me placing my phone on mute and do not disturb mode, only allowing emergency calls or repeated calls from family members through. Secondly, I gathered up all of my due homework and made a list organizing my top priorities, I also put into consideration what tasks would require the use of a computer and I put an estimation of the amount of time I should spend on the internet for these specified tasks.…

School became a lot harder, especially because in the past I found it pretty easy to complete assignments and course work with only average effort and still be happy with my marks. I found I really needed to put time into studying for the first time. I became more stressed about academic success, and the social pressure in our grade skyrocketed to an all-time high. Meanwhile, I was expected to be at practice for a minimum of 1.5-2 hours a night, plus some weekends and a few mornings. I also enjoy being active throughout different areas of the school, in which my various commitments added up quickly, none of which I wanted to…

Three years into my high school I hadn't gotten into the state of mind that most over achievers have. I had floated through high school thinking I was trying my very hardest to get good grades and become a consistently studious candidate of my school. However, no matter how hard I tried I failed I gave into all the distractions and used all my obstacles as excuses became frustrated and developed an attitude problem that I had created myself. Being a consistent 2.5 student wasn't satisfying or inspiring. Uniquely enough, I had decided to take challenging courses my junior year.…

I did succeed in making my grades but by the last months of the semester I realize that the stress that came with procrastination wasn’t worth in ad I started working on time management. In high school the words time management are repeated but never really explains. I grew up hating the simple idea of time management, but I have since learned that is means balance. It is easy to think of staying in and doing nothing but studies, but true time management is the balancing the responsibilities you must complete and the things you want to do. Walking out of high school I can definitely say that this English class was the most vigorous and challenging classes that I have ever taken.
