I Love My Job

Improved Essays
Most people dread going to their jobs. They hate putting on their plain uniform, and dealing with crabby and ungrateful people, not to mention the drive to work for these people is almost as terrible as work itself. I am nothing like this. Every day before I work, I put on my athletic shorts, t-shirt, socks, and I am excited to start my job. I enjoy my drive to work, and when I get there I am greeted by a few co-workers. I then put my bags in the office, and make my way to the gym. The other coaches and I set up for the day, and when the clock reads nine in the morning, about 30 energetic six to ten year old girls run onto the floor and get ready to start their gymnastics class. After I finish coaching for the day, I drive home, eat a quick …show more content…
The main reason I love my jobs is not my uniform or my pay. I love both my jobs so much because I have the opportunity to do what I love every day. As a coach I get the chance to train, teach, and mentor kids each day. Teaching is something I love to do, especially with children. As an intern at Matti’s, I have the opportunity to learn about fashion throughout the years, and create costumes and historical garments. Even though my jobs are not a conventional job, like a grocery clerk or a secretary, they still have some of the same aspects of those jobs and are completely different at the same …show more content…
The employee can put as much effort into their job as they can, and hope that that his or her boss will like them in return. For example, if my bosses at Matti’s liked me very much, but I couldn’t sew a straight line, I wouldn’t get anything done, and it would not be good for their business. It would just be a hassle for me to be around. When what Willy hoped for is put into reality, it sounds like a joke. Adam Davidson writes about his encounter with a young lady named Maddie in his essay Making it in America. She worked at an assembly line in South Carolina, and was very good at her job and well-liked. Davidson writes, “she continued to impress people by working hard, learning quickly, and displaying a good attitude” (337). She wasn’t boastful of her abilities at work or at home; she only put in the effort so that it would later pay back in life. That is exactly what I have tried to do in my working experience. When I am ever having a hard day at work, I think of the best outcome of my unconventional jobs: I get paid double. It is not that I get my salary raised, but I receive more benefits than just a check in my wallet. In both jobs I get the satisfaction of a job-well-done. Whether it be helping a six-year-old girl finally master her cartwheel, or finishing the cherry red civil war gown after working on it for a whole week, both are equally

A theme discussed a lot in poetry is career. There are three poems that discuss working. The poem by Philip Levine is called, “What Work Is” which will sound familiar since the world already knows what working hard is and most people have parents that work. The second poem by Jan Beatty is named, “My Father Teaches me to Dream” and that the poem talks about a similar aspect of life called work.…

Dunkin Donuts It started with Dunkin Donut, an organization that Rachel Doucet worked for, and she said, “It really is a circus at times”. I interviewed Rachel Doucet who happens to works at Dunkin Donuts and I will do a critical analysis on the metaphors that she mentioned about Dunkin Donuts as an organization. It is based on a fast-food industry as an organization and how the people work as well interact in the workforce. I did a fifteen minutes interview and analyzed on the metaphors Rachel described about Dunkin Donuts. My reaction to the metaphors Rachel described was a bit shocking because I did not expect Dunkin Donuts to be crazier than I realize.…

The play Machinal by Sophie Treadwell creates a world that Young Woman feels trapped in by the mundane, thoughtless routine, repeated every day. Much like the machines that they work with, most of the characters around Young Woman perform a certain set of tasks and never stray from them. Young Woman is yearning for something different, a feeling of life that is not mechanical, instead something human, even though she is not entirely sure what that entails. As her life moves on, however, she becomes even more entrenched in the conveyer belt life that she desperately wanted to avoid. As a result of her constant dissatisfaction with her life, and without anyone around her able to understand, she becomes isolated, cornered by her discontent.…

In the great film, Something The Lord Made, directed by Joseph Sargent, it tells a story of a young Vivien Thomas who struggles with being looked at differently by others. Vivien had a strong passion for medicine and wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. I can somewhat relate to Vivien’s struggle because when I worked at a gym over the summer, I felt that I was looked at differently because I was a female. Mostly you see strong and built men working in gyms, but for me, working out and helping others was, and still is, something I enjoyed. There are a couple ways in which Vivien…

In the article,"It's not talent; It's just work," by Annie Dillard. Dillard wrote this article to inform the reader that having a job in life is hard and important. Dillard says, "Here we are, all equal and alike and none of us much to write home about-and some people choose to make themselves into physicians or thinkers or major-league pitchers, knowing perfectly that it will be nothing but hard work". In the world today, hard work is needed to carry out many of the jobs in this world as well as trust in your coworkers and experience in that field. Many people who have an important job, like owning a business, experienced hard work on their road to being successful.…
