Each student has a family history, each student has an identity that is distinctly their own. It is exceedingly important to acknowledge this, to show students that everyone is a little bit different, and that is perfectly okay. For students to be able to properly function in society, they must be ready to recognize that people are different and embrace people of different backgrounds, of different histories, of different identities. If they view the world only from one way of life, they miss out on the complexities of life. With the help of literature, films, and other aids, I hope to share the beauty of other cultures, of other ways of viewing the world with my students. By giving students outlets to share their something of their culture and family life with the class through food, pictures, and stories, maybe I can help students recognize and better appreciate all the world has to offer. By acknowledging the singularity of each student 's personal history, by celebrating them as a normal part of life, I hope to promote this idea of diversity, to push my students to be more accepting of
