Privileged Challenges

In my life I have had many challenges, privileged challenges but challenges nonetheless. What I mean by “privileged challenges” is that I’ve lead a very fortunate life with a family that loves me and has a steady income. Many people I meet I find that they are not as fortunate and it makes me feel as though I should be counting my blessings rather than complaining about the fact I didn’t get into my first choice or that I failed a test or that I’m stressed about the little things. Aside from that, the reason I am at Miami University is simple. Soccer. Soccer has been my life since I was 5 years old playing at the recreational level. I would be the first one at practice ready to go with my dorky looking practice outfit. As the years went on …show more content…
I had been told that I wasn’t going to spet foot on a field for at least 8 months and that was complete best-case scenario. That reality had put me in a downward spiral. I didn’t eat more that a piece of bread for at least a month and a half, I had lost 25 pounds of my hard-earned muscle and I had lost all hope of the future. After my knee repair, I had decided that the only way I will come back in 8 months is if I get myself together and work my butt off. There were times of hopelessness but I was able to pull through them and get back on track because of my amazing support group and mainly may parents. Physical therapy was my favorite part of my week because I knew every appointment I went to meant I was one step closer to getting back to the game I love. As time went on the muscles started coming back along with my coordination and I was able to come back non-contact in 5 months. That had been the best news I had gotten all year so far. Within 8 months I was playing the full 90 minute game with a smile on my face. It had been one of the hardest adversity’s I had faced in my short life.
