Previously, I attended a women’s college that was known for its large completely female military program. Majority of the girls in the program came from military families and understood what it was like to be military children. Being that I was a raised by a civilian and had never met any military kids before, I didn't understand why they would want to join the military knowing what they experienced being military children and what their parent(s) experienced being in the military. Now that i think about it, that may be one of the reasons why the girls in the program were so close to each other. They rarely hung out with civilians or even the other who may have been military kids but not in the military program. As a result, most of the civilian students did the same. …show more content…

Therefore, I try to meet and become close with people with different backgrounds from me, as hard as it may be. “According to an article by Tom Ford in the Minneapolis-St Paul star Tribune wherein he cited two experts on trends in military service, only 30 percent of the 535 members of Congress have a military background”. (5) This quote from paragraph 5 gives us information on how not a lot of families have to suffer the exact pain that all military parents have to endure. “Hillary Clinton often said that she looked to Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt as role models. But there’ no evidence Senator Clinton is “very much upset” by the fact that her service-age daughter did not volunteer to fight in the war that Senator Clinton voted for”.…

Also, I learned that women soldier have to fight their way in the war and that bring many problems. I think that it’s a good idea that some women want to join the military for the same reason that men do like opportunity, education, and desire to sever. However, many people joined because they want to see what else is beyond their hometown and to see new things. In this case, I think that a soldier is a soldier and women’s bring nothing more than a body to fill a uniform just like men will do. In addition, I learned that there are women bathroom and shower that are next to the men bathroom.…

Military Brats face many hardships that people often don't see or hear about because frankly, what does it really have to do with us? Things such as social interactions and going home to their family can become challenging or even scary to those children who are young in age, and while there are some plus sides to being raised in the military such as versatility, learning how to become a great cook by the age of seven, and even the ability to dive into the many cultures the world has to offer the cons can often outweigh the pros in the struggle to maintain a healthy mental lifestyle for these children. Studies have shown things such as how different genders handle growing up in the military, the harmful mental effects that are in place because they grow up in the military, and the ways that anyone can stop these things from happening or…

"Their military parent signed on the dotted line; their children did not. Yet, they must deal with deployments, frequent moves and school transitions, and they do so with courage and grace" (Sanchez). Military children face situations that many children their age never have to face, such as their parents leaving in deployments, the constant three-year moves, separations from loved ones, and stress of the military. When people think of these military children, the first thing they think about is how these children are different and face their parents' constant absence. Unless they are part of the military, however, most people have little understanding of the military life and how this life affects the family, specifically the children.…

Mothers, singers, noblewomen, poor women, all joined the military during this time to either become pilots or radio operators or took on other various roles to support the war effort (Cornelsen 116). These are women who, under normal circumstances, would not have met in their daily lives came together for a single cause. Women prior to this time had rather rigid roles in society, while they had jobs outside of the home at this time they were still expected to be mothers, child-bearers, and housewives (Lockhart & Pergrande 156). Just by joining the military (the air force particularly) these women broke many gender roles that were imposed upon them at the time but even in the military they faced much discrimination just for being…

Military families often times experience different types and multiple stressors and trauma throughout their lifetimes. At times these different situations and stressors can be positive or negative (Lester & Flake, 2013). However, either with either type of stressors families can show both strengthens and weaknesses. These different transitions can be positive and can allow for opportunities for youth to grow and experience adventures that they might not have had the opportunity to experience if they were not a member of a military family. These transitions can also be disruptive towards the family or individuals due to changing schedules and locations.…

Equal opportunity may not result in equal outcome In light of Secretary of Defense Aston Carter’s recent announcement that all combat military occupational specialties will open to women, I feel compelled to speak on this controversial subject. In this paper I will talk about both sides of the argument including factors of the effects of gender integration in combat units and provide reasons that justify predictions that people have made. This certain topic affects me because I have a brother that has given four years of service and has five more years of service to give after becoming an officer for the Marines. My brother Thomas served as infantry member and if they rule that women may serve it will affect him in his military career in the…

Females can do the same jobs males do or maybe even better in some cases. When you think of the people fighting on the front lines in combat you think of males, because they 're normally on the army posters. Women can make a big difference in the armed forces and contribute as well as the men. Vernice Armour says, "Bottom line is if you can do the job, you should be out there doing it... man or a woman" (picture caption).…
