It did not matter that I did not like the sport, what mattered was that my parents did all they could to support my ability to play. That is how life goes, support is like fertilizer and the more plants you tend to, the better they will grow. My sister, having a mild learning disability, was supported so heavily and still is. While my sister deserves a lot of credit for the obstacles she has overcome, its my parents who I think we both say did the most work with their dedication to her. I think Jessica, originally believed her kids to be ignorant of the finer things in life, and it was not until her eyes were opened that she in fact was the one ignorant to their needs, and their culture. I hope a a teacher I can in the beginning start off more aware towards those of a different culture and be able to cater to their needs gracefully and include hero’s in the lessons that they can look up to. Now a day, you do not see kids given a lot of variety in hero’s. Hero’s are all muscular attractive white people with little to no disability. It is going to be a difficult time to connect with them but it is feasible. My grandmother is from Chile and has dealt with this kind of discrimination these students see daily. My two uncles, also born in Chile, had to go through schooling with these complications in tow. My grandmother after 30 years, finally got her citizenship and I have never seen her so proud. The line we have between American citizens and those of different races I feel are to thick to really overcome the social aspect of culture differences. It disgusts me to think that not only is there no legal agreement that protects the Mexican born but that with the native Americans were forced to assimilate with us. It is disgusting to think we forced them to forget their native tongue and to become more like the white man because truly, why are we so great? I do not see the reason. America is known as the melting pot, so why is it so hard for us to accept different cultures? One of my favorite things to do when traveling is to find the designated china town. No area is as culturally rich as china town in my opinion. I feel like I learn a lot when I walk through and am able to direct questions at people about what is for sale and about books or food. Culture should be about getting to share the knowledge with appreciation but not appropriation. Not only are we not extreme enough to accept other cultures but we also go to far and begin
