I have often heard students conversing with others students about where each comes from. I myself have worked with students from Ethiopia, Cambodia, Guam, and Mexico. This cultural diversity allows students to recognize the unique aspects of each culture from persons actually from that culture, rather than just reading about these cultures or simply not hearing about them at all. This serves as an asset to the community because it gives the students a well-rounded view of the communities we live in, instead of only offering insight of the majority race. No matter ones sexual orientation, social class, gender, race, or cultural background, all persons can expect to be welcomed into Roosevelt with open arms. This serves each student well by allowing them to grow as an individual with confidence, not constricted by many overarching social restraints. Each student also learns about how to work well with persons from a broad range of backgrounds, setting themselves up to succeed in the global workplace. The community also benefits from this diversity by growing in understanding and compassion for ones neighbors despite any differences.
