Because this article focus on distance education, it covers two different types of communication, the general communication that is found in an in-person education venue, as well as communication through technology that act as a mediator of the teacher and learning that is taking place at a distance. This study discovers and explains the many opportunities and barriers that affect communication. An intense review of literature on the subject of barriers that affect distance education, the technical, psychological, social cultural, and contextual challenges have led to this conclusions: as the technology that is used for distance education improves, so too does both the chances to overcome many of those barriers that create ineffective communication as well as the complexity of those barriers that are faced by those involved in the distance learning
