A false memory comes from being lead on to believe that something happened. For instance, in a study stated in the article Memory Faults and Fixes by Elizabeth Loftus said that they were able to plant a memory into people’s heads that they had been lost as a small child when never really were. Now what if someone had seen a crime be done, but someone pays someone else to plant in their mind that they saw something different? Then they would be giving false information and leading investigators down the wrong paths. Sometimes someone could have a repressed memory from something that has happened to them that was very bad, so they pushed it to their subconscious mind. When this happens, it could cause people stress and other things, so they go and try to get to the root of the problem. These people go and talk to a psychologist to find their repressed memories, or what is wrong with them since they don’t know something is repressed. A lot of times people could be led to believe that they were raped or something because the psychologist was trying to find something that wasn’t there this is why many therapists have been sued like stated in the article. Since people can just find repressed memories that aren’t real or remember things that has never happened to them I don’t think people should be able to be eyewitnesses since things can just be made up even if they think its not made up, we should just rely on the science since that can’t be made
