According to Michelle Alexander, “All human beings are created equally and have certain inalienable rights. It won’t die. This idea has continued to survive; it has continued to grow. We see now in the United States that we do believe that women are equal. We have an idea that people of all races are created equal. We are now beginning to see that regardless of your sexual orientation, you are equal. This idea itself has not died.” The quote provided represents the significance of how much the United States has changed in regards to discrimination.
The first video about the housing discrimination definitely shocked me. I am aware that discrimination exists in many forms, but I did not think it would even occur with such a minor issue like

Again, I was shocked by the video because it completely did not even go through my mind that even criminals experience discrimination. At first, I did agree and had a personal belief that those who are free from prison should not get the same privileges as the rest of society. However, Michelle Alexander touched on a major point that we should start taking into consideration all of those criminals that were released from prison and have evidently returned back to society with a new and improved lifestyle. Then, I realized that she was right and that criminals that have changed their lifestyle and are now considered “good citizens” should not get discriminated from public housing, getting an education, and employment.
The final video demonstrated the idea that we have some variation of prejudice, even at a very young age. I was absolutely shocked and disappointed that at such a young age, children still can indicate signs of prejudice towards other people. When being asked which doll was bad and ugly, all the children presented in the video answered that it was the African American doll; even the African American children agreed. This personally made me feel sad because they should not view that being “black” is bad or ugly for wrong

Hostile Sexism involves negative feelings toward women, while Benevolent Sexism involves a knight-in-shining armor ideology that offers protection and affection to women who conform to traditional gender roles. I personally believe that I was not that surprised by my scores. Compared to people in America, my HS score was higher than the average female and was close to the average male. I believe this is because I am not that “headstrong” about feminism and I can admit that sometimes, women are very difficult to handle and work with.
