The biggest debate that we have as parents is the right way to discipline our children. What is the right way? Is there a right way? There are many parenting styles and many opinions on how to discipline and if those styles are effective. That’s why I chose this topic to explore the styles and opinions of parents. Not only do I want to explore the opinions of the parents but also how culture and religion amongst many other things play a role in disciplining children. The four most recognized parenting styles are: authoritative, neglectful, permissive, and authoritarian. I will explain these styles and how you can identify which one you are further in this paper. I also will be expressing my personal opinion on the ways of discipline and why I believe my style works. I know that this is a touchy subject and what one person may think is the right way may not be the right way for others. There is no for sure way when it comes to parenting, like it’s said there is not “handbook” on how to parent when you have a child. Hopefully this paper will give a look into multiple sides of this issue and will give a better understanding of discipline.
