Death. The loss of someone can weaken us from despair or strengthen us from the legacy left behind them. The savage murder of clutter family members created vigilance in the inhabitants of Holcomb and strengthened security. However, suspiciousness among neighbors rose, mistrust corrupted long lasting friendships and fear contaminated in the veins of the inhabitants. The murder of the Clutters strengthened Holcomb from vigilance, but weakened the mistrust of their neighbors. When Jill Sparks, the mother of the Sparks children and the wife of Patrick Sparks, died unexpectedly when her horse somehow stumbled in the immaculate trail, it transformed Patrick Sparks into a depressed and solemn person. Solitude progressed to devour Patrick and further destructed the contentedness he once cherished with his lifelong best friend. With his lifelong companion absent in his life, Patrick found it incredibly hard to overcome her death. However, by finding companionship with his children, he soon overcame his major obstacle, depression. His children fed him with confidence, the possibility of finding love again, and a distraction from the painful death of his wife. Likewise, Sparks, the author of Three Weeks with My Brother portrays how death occurs in the blink of an eye. The death of Jill Sparks occurred at the least expected moment which is similar to the way how the Clutters died during an unfortunate and unforeseen night when two murderers invaded their house. When Patrick Sparks dies from an unexpected car crash, the Sparks siblings are stripped away from the absence of their parents.The death of both of their parents causes the siblings to depend on each other in order to find comfort and security. Hence, through the need for dependence, their companionship is strengthened which allows the Sparks siblings to overcome the death of their father. The siblings understand each other’s anguish of the loss of their father,which allows them to easily depend on each other. Most people who superficially know the Sparks siblings may find pity in them from their loss. However, through the companionship between the siblings, the siblings can easily alleviate one another’s misery because they understand each other.Likewise, when the Sparks siblings first witnessed the death of a whimsical dog, they couldn’t seek comfort from their parents due to chaos occurring with their van. However, companionship between them allowed them to overcome the gruesome of Sparky when he was ghastly run over by a car. Their companionship allowed them to independently overcome the situation without the security of their parents.Similarly, their dependence on each other was necessary which caused their companionship to strengthen.
