In the daily pursuit of life, everyday occurrences impact one’s life and their point of view. In the science-fiction thriller Signs, directed by M. Knight Shyamalan, the main character Graham experiences a tragedy that forever changes him and his religious perspective. Graham Hess’s faith in God is lost and the signs throughout the movie are portrayed in order for him to realize God’s plan. It all started with the crop circles, particularly the one that began on the Hess farm. At first confusion was stirred up and the Hess family had no idea as to why this happened. Morgan wondered if perhaps it was God. Once they turned on the news they knew they weren’t the only ones. Within 72 hours crop circles have been indicated around the whole world. This was a sign that they weren’t the only ones in the universe. This sign can be implied that Graham is not alone in his religious struggles.

That is when his life is turned upside-down, his faith is lost, and unsure of his belief in a greater good. God displays all these signs in front of him, leading up to and during the alien invasion, and it is in the falling action he has an epiphany and sees that everything has a deeper meaning. If God never gifted the Hess family with their flaws, no good would have come from the alien invasion. If Morgan never had asthma, Bo with her water tick and Colleen dying, the whole family would've died. Just because the outer appearance of something seems to be a flaw, one cannot precipitate how the flaw fits into the grander
