Cursive writing is a controversial subject in education in our current times. Educators and community members have differing thoughts, ideas and opinions on the validity of cursive writing as it pertains to modern educational needs, and value as a life skill in modern society. The 2010 Common Core Standards, adopted as a graduation requirement in the United States, do not require displaying profencity or even proof of the ability to write in cursive.In fact, a survey revealed that currently only 37% of handwriting teachers in the USA write in cursive. Typing on computers has replaced writing as the current mode for sharing information in schools, and in the global economy. Many believe that even the keyboard will become obsolete soon and education must adapt remain revelant. …show more content…
It proves that cursive writing helps the brains of students become stronger. Cursive writing stimulates both the left and the right side of the brain through requiring connected movement between both sides. Cursive writng has become a useful tool in identifying dyslexia, a reading disorder. In fact, handwritng has be shown to be useful in helping persons with a brain injury through excercising important parts of the brain deemed critical to thinking
