I think that having these other parts viewable for the participant swayed them to think a certain way. It is true that body language and posture can definitely affect how someone thinks of another. If the person is dressed in dingy dirty clothes and is just slouching they may look as more guilty than someone who is wearing a nice suit and standing straight and attentive. It is said in the same article that a majority of the participants were able to accurately tell between criminal or noncriminal. The only inconsistency came when trying to give any specific titles to those, for example, whether they were a violent or not, and what the crime was committed. This one study does show that people can tell when there is a controlled group of pictures to distinguish through. However, on a broader scale when looking at a society, such as in the United States, where there are so many different races and cultures, I do not believe that this theory or method of tracking criminality can truly be used without there being lots of discrepancies. I think that the reason that these theories of facial features being indicators of criminality keeps coming up is because their is still no definite answer as to what causes someone to be a criminal. Whether it be their genetic makeup or environmental influences. I think that fact that nothing has been confirmed or discredited causes people to want to still know, and by doing the research and studies in every theory based inference can help bring people towards some
