Up to the present date, there are no studies examined by the research team which indicate a link between creativity and the use of Pinterest. Many other studies have used Facebook or Twitter as their main platform against which to measure creativity (Hughes, Rowe, Batey, & Lee, (2011); however, this current study uses Pinterest, which is a completely different form of social media. Pinterest differs from Facebook and Twitter, in that it is marketed to be a creative, do-it-yourself, artistic social platform, whereas the other social media sites are geared toward social and current events, connections, and electronic communication. Pinterest does not use the same textual communication as Facebook or Twitter. Additionally, Pinterest is a much more individual, self-fulfilling form of social media, in other words, one posts on pinterest to share his or her personal creative projects or aspirations (Phillips, et al., 2013). In order to measure a characteristic which is not easily understood, such as creativity, the research team chose the Runco Ideational Behavior Scale. This scale has been previously tested as reliable and valid and fair, and is was not created by the present research team. The team adopted this scale to measure prevalence of creativity in the form of a college student survey. Moreover, the research team has established key geographic questions to observe and account for confounding variables, such as gender.
