Leisure Time
I tell my co-workers that “If you’re having fun, then you aren’t working hard enough.” I edge this sentiment with levity, of course, but I do believe in a distinct separation of work and play, that there belongs little overlap between the two. This isn’t to say you can’t enjoy your job, but that fun should come after.
Like everyone else, I enjoy kicking back and relaxing, or engaging in something entirely for its own sake. I am 35-years old and I still play video game. They’re fun, usually, with engaging storylines and lots of action. However, I do know they can be distracting. The last thing I did before starting college was to give away my Xbox and crate full of games. I have, however, slowly accumulated a digital collection on my personal computer, most of which I purchased on sale. This statement is also a copout; I don’t know what happens when we die, or if there is a God. Since my mother’s death last year, I have put a considerable amount of thought into this notion and realized that the pursuit of an answer is asking the wrong question.
In consciously choosing to accept the possibility of a higher power, I realized that every single religion in the world it right, and wrong simultaneously. If there is a power to fashion and direct something as vast as existence itself, then its knowing must exist beyond, or even before, our limited human understanding. So the answer is to stop worrying, accepting that one day we will all find out what happens next, or doesn’t
