In regards to leadership, the Sony Corporation forms its framework of corporate governance into two sections: Supervision and Management. The Supervision section is comprised of the Board of Directors and the three committees of Nominating, Compensation, and Auditing. The Board and the committees create corporate and business level strategies that the management section enforces among their subordinates. The board and committees also elect the officials within the management section, electing only those they deem capable to handle the responsibilities of their position and dedicated to the company’s cause and ideas. As demonstrated in his opening keynote at Sony’s 2014 CES Conference, Hirai embodies the fundamental ideologies that Sony promotes through its products and services. The company’s main idea is kando, a Japanese concept that describes a feeling of emotional involvement, and a sense of awe and admiration. The company and its employees work to invoke this spirit of kando not only in their consumers, but in themselves, as well. As stated, Hirai embodies the spirit of kando, when it comes to growing technology and technical skills. Hirai recounts a story of when he was little, where he was in absolute awe at the concept of a television. Due to the fact that Sony’s goals are more concerned about influencing society, rather than making profits off of their products, The company’s and its employees’ efforts are recognized more in a long-term kind of effect. They have created technology and pave the way for technological advancements that have enabled our society to be where it is today, whether it be through entertainment, movies, music, or network services. The company’s employees take pride in knowing their own and each other’s efforts are resulting in great happiness in consumers and society alike. Regardless of the fact that many analysts paint Sony in a negative light for not having great profits each year, the company recognizes its hard work and everything that comes out of it.
