Corporal punishment is not just about the immediate impact on the child. When these children grow into adults they are still traumatized by the memory and the atmosphere that surrounds that punishment. Those experiences shape them in adulthood and help form a moral and ethical belief on how they approach decisions in life. Greydanus testified that physical discipline makes the school environment “unproductive, nullifying, and punitive,” and teaches children that “violence is acceptable, especially against the weak, the defenseless, and the subordinate” (Greydanus, qtd. in Anderson). School is a place to educate children to become better individuals, if the school system uses this technique on them it only teaches them to ignore or get rid of the difficult tasks and reform into the picture everyone wants. Children should be guided and taught in a positive and safe environment from adults while attending classes. Education staff and law enforcement take these children out of class or expel them which in turn sets them up to fail their educational goals. Schools have set up, to have officers onsite, but they should be using those resources to educate their educators to handle difficult situations in their classrooms and not just push them off to the officer on duty. A class disruption does not always warrant a trip to the principal’s office or a suspension, if they take the time to know their students it makes it that much easier to defuse a situation when it arises.
