The Importance Of Core Knowledge In Social Work

At the adjourning phase, the social worker needs to have core knowledge to help the group get through the final phase of termination. Domestic violence groups with adults may be different than working with teenagers and children in some ways because of level of maturity and so forth, however, the social worker still needs to have the core knowledge necessary in working with all of these groups and have the skills and abilities in all phases including termination which could be more difficult for some group members than others and helping the group through this process should not be taken lightly. In addition, the core knowledge the social worker needs at the adjourning phase is listed below.
Core Knowledge:
• Group dynamics related to endings. These will be different depending on the type of group such as short-term or …show more content…
• Resources and Referrals.
• The impact of previous endings and separation of members of the group.
• Terms of continued interactions with group members.
• Group Evaluation Methods and Knowledge of Evaluation Processes.
• Knowledge of grieving cycles.
• Knowledge of resources and next steps to help members. (Transcript, 2016) The core knowledge a social worker needs follows the same guidelines as working with adults, however, some difference may be providing different types of resources and information at the end phase such as dating violence resources and referrals and these would be different compared to adults and reviewing and summarizing the sessions may be different because of materials that might have been used and activities which would be different in these two types of groups. In addition, at the end phase of working with teenagers in a dating violence group some additional resources or information could be provided for future use and they are listed below.
