The cooking made in Egypt was done in clay jars and clay ovens over open fires (Splendors). We know about what utensils and equipment that used from finding them in tombs. In America we have, sports, board games, obstacle courses, marathons and races, movies, theatre plays and musicals, parties, comedy acts, television shows, and concerts. Did the ancient Egyptian have any of these to entertain them? We know that they played a good deal of strategic board games such as a modern day backgammon or checkers, from the paintings recovered from tombs and temples. The boys in Egypt would wrestle and play tug-of- war for fun, like any boys at that young age (Swenson). Some would role play like charades, obstacle courses, and tag. Some sports the men played were chariot races; hunting wildlife, stick fighting, boxing, and fishing (Brewer& Teeter) (Journey to Ancient Egypt). Even in America, we take pleasure in cutting loose and freeing ourselves from our everyday hectic lives and this is one way to relieve that stress. The festivals included meat and beer, and also pastries and cake. These festivals were in honor of the gods, and if the celebration was more serious they would be held by the priests (Splendors). If the bash was more relaxed and fun, they would be held by regular people (Splendors). There were musicians and singers that played instruments such as the flute and harps, but what were really entertaining at these parties were the female dancers. The dancers were most of the time nude, which made them erotic performers, like we have today. These hangouts would be called a gentlemen’s club, or simply a strip club (Coopertoons). Not only were the men at these parties, but so were the wives of some of the men there. The women and men would usually be separated to each side of the room (Coopertoons). As a rule the men would dance with each other and the women would dance with women (Brewer & Teeter). The servants made sure the guests had their stomachs full and were content (Journey to Ancient Egypt).
