This qualitative multiple case study purpose is to explore how ten male and ten female community college leaders from several different community colleges in Texas perceive community college leadership. A specific focus will be placed upon identifying and exploring the gender leadership gap. Further, the study will be described, with reference to the population, selection of the sample, the instrument, and procedures for the collection and analysis of data.
Research Methods and Designs
Within the proposed research, the academic professional lives of ten male and ten female community college presidents will be studied to identify and explore underlying motivations, to uncover prevalent trends in thoughts and opinion, in an attempt to capture …show more content…

Merriam (1998) approves of Yin’s advocacy for case study as a legitimate research strategy. Yet, Yin (2013) has positivistic orientation focused upon objectivity, validity and generalizability while Merriam (1998) and Stake (1995) approach case study methodology and principles from a constructivism epistemology philosophy which considers that understanding the meaning or knowledge constructed by people is the primary interest of qualitative researchers.
