Register to read the introduction… The preconceived idea of promoting our feelings while hiding behind the screen of a laptop or smart phone, is leading to the demise of relationships. The only way to end this form of cowardice is through education. Education begins at home. At first, it was easy to blame America’s youth for abusing technological advancements, but through time I came to realize that parents are just as much to blame. Parents fail to set rules and proper examples. When children witness their parents fighting with a coworker, friend, or significant other, they automatically begin to believe that all form of communication can be done through the phone. From that point on, society offers us social media networks and make us believe that it is OK and normal to update statuses stating what we are doing, thinking, and feeling every second of the day. No wonder America’s youth has inherited such a nasty habit. There is no one in their life to show them the proper way of talking to someone. And of course, I understand the incredible benefits that cell phones and social media networks have to offer! They allow us to maintain a social life and interact with family members not living in the same state or country. It even saves long distance relationships. I do not want to abolish the use of technology. However, I would like for the awareness and education to increase. If not, then those 1980 love stories and friendships will cease to exist. Courage and honesty; trust and genuine character will be lost. Talking face-to-face can be terrifying, but in all honesty, it’s not like Twitter or Facebook even care about your broken
