With the advancement of today’s technology, people are able to create or help maintain a relationship through online networking. People manage to keep their relationships intact or maintained is usually through online messaging. With this online messaging two individual can help keep communication between each other no matter how far apart they are from each other and keep a healthy relationship. But when it comes to socializing through online networking most people these days don’t really think about the conflicts of communicating with each other and how to resolve those conflicts. What most people these days don’t realize is that conflict isn’t just associated with fighting or arguing with another person, but it actually has different meanings. Conflict can be associated to be positive, constructive, or can be considered negative, destructive. According to the book Thinking Communication by Isa Engleberg and Dianna Wynn destructive conflict can be defined as “the result of behaviors that create hostility or prevent problem solving” (pg 142) and constructive …show more content…
According to the journal article by Kumi K Ishii there are “five identifiable styles of handling interpersonal conflict.” (pg 366). What these five styles to manage an online conflict are classified as “(a) integrating (high concern for self and the other); (b) dominating (high concern for self and low concern for other); (c) obliging (low concern for self and high concern for other); (d) avoiding (low concern on both dimensions); and (e) compromising (middle on both dimensions).” (Ishii pg 366) These five styles to manage a conflict online are to use for one individual on the conflict confronts the other and tries to communicates without causing the conflict to be more destructive rather than
