When it comes to success, communication is the key. There are multiple skills that are absolutely necessary to achieve strong communication. It is always important to keep an open mind when discussing business or even discussing with others. This helps keep a team functioning properly and efficiently as well. Knowing how to work in a team is extremely crucial for the purpose of productivity and success. While working with others, it is obvious that you are exposed to all sorts of personalities, races, and cultures and learning to look at things from a different perspective can be beneficial. Educators should help students focus more on their communication skills throughout high school and in college communication should be taught at a higher level of education. In college, it is common for students to take a 3-credit speech course that offers a broad understanding of basic business communication through activities. The result of the activities includes writing a letter, speech, report, etc. (Wunsch & Tomkovick 1995). Which is fine but, students need more when it comes to properly learning business communication. Students need to experience and practice a higher level of learning in the subject while completing their majors (Wunsch & Tomkovick 1995). “In this paper, I examine college curriculum competencies and skills acquired in college education that former students report as most essential to improve their career experiences (Zekeri 2004).” Educators should be evaluated on their curriculum for the students to make sure they are getting what they need to survive in the future. Students need to take surveys of the teachers that instructed them to help teachers improve their methods. “Considerable emphasis should be placed on teaching basic communication skills because collectively, college graduates expressed considerable interest in communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Learning the proper skills for communication is absolutely necessary. When coming in contact with multiple situations in a career, the top skill to have is keeping an open mind. Team work is quite common and knowing how to properly function in a team and be productive is a skill that should be learned through group projects in school. In school projects the practice of being exposed to different personalities, races, religions, and the opposite sex will help with facing these situations in the workplace. In teams, every member will see things the same or differently; to be able to look at situations in different perspectives will help with understanding of how everyone feels and keep the team positive. Each form of communication should be practiced in school to have the concept mastered before entering the work place. Talking with customers will not always be face to face and being able to effectively deliver a message professionally is important. Communication is very crucial and it needs to be stressed more in the grade school atmosphere and the college without a doubt. Issuing more projects for students to practice these skills is helping develop a better future for everyone. The value of knowing how to properly communicate in the work place cannot be measured.
