Succession planning is, in a sense, a reflection of a leader’s ability to train, coach, and develop the people around them. Understanding and identifying potential leaders is vital to the ongoing growth and development of a successful team. This is easier said than done. Most weak organizations seek external succession initially, and it is not without plenty of hard work and effort that they can begin promoting from within. The idea is to hire candidates at the lower level that have the skills and potential to be great leaders. By doing this, a pool of candidates becomes available for promotions or replacements when the time comes. These candidates would not need to be screened for communication and management skills because they were hired according to the redefined standards of the lower-level …show more content…
Then a list of standards and expectations covering the required and recommended skills is created for each job. Next, take a look at the potential candidates and assess their current skills and those that need to be developed. Once you have a pool of candidates worth the effort, begin working on developing and perfecting the skills that they need to focus on. Finally, when the time comes to promote these lower-level employees to administrative positions, and even further up the ladder to manager spots, the company can be sure that they have a number of great employees to select

It has been brought to my attention that at the next meeting that the family will be addressing the issue of succession and how to determine the next leader of the business. The first step that the business and family should do when creating a succession plan is to have an open mind. When going into a meeting about succession planning do not be close minded and shut out viable outside options. The second step is to determine what characteristics are desired in a leader (i.e. integrity, commitment to the business, respect of employees). Once this is determined, the family should consider what kinds of education, previous experience is desired for a successor (this should also be included in an employment policy for family members).…

Weinbach and Taylor (2015) states that leading is about “the manager’s conscious efforts to influence other persons within the organisation to engage willingly in those behaviours that contribute to achievement of organisational goals” (p.101). One of keys to influential leadership appears to be staff motivation. Staff members will be motivated to contribute their best work if information, responsibility, and authority for decision-making are give to them within their areas of expertise (Schermerhorn et al., 2017).…

It is the obligation of a leader to pass on the torch so to speak to the successor, and provide them with succession readiness within an organization. Succession readiness is noted as having the wherewithal to step back as leader of the organization and allow the successor to step into the limelight as a leader. This takes self-effacement, and unpretentiousness, in really emphasizing the importance of the company. With the best interests of the organization and people of the company in place, a leader can be succession…

Communication is one of the most underestimated weapons in an organisation. While most firms focus on their business strategies, the prime concern lies amongst the employees and their poor communication skills. An ideal set up of any organisation would be effective communication between different departments to capitalize the strength and overcome the weaknesses so as to improve the overall health of the organisation as well as maintaining the morale of the employees (Dennis Tourish and Owen Hargie, 2004).
