In my previous english classes I was never pushed to all my potential, I was never influenced to stretch my writing and expand it past expectation, I never had high ambitions when writing essays. college writing really changed my writing for the better. Before, in high school I never wanted to waste my time putting so much effort in a paper when other kids around me could care less. I let them influence me and tether my writing potential. Before heading to college I was nervous and scared because of the stigma behind college writing classes; but once I got here the nerves faded and I became excited. And it wasn’t until class began and I heard what the other students were saying, that I came to realize. There are always going to people that …show more content…
I have a great understanding of the three appeals and I enjoyed breaking down President Obama’s entire Rutgers commencement 2016 speech into its correct categories of appeals. This was an essay I spent a lot of time on in and out of the class. One, because it was probably one of the longest speeches out of everyone in our class; but also because I wanted to do well. I lost count of how many times I read over or watched the video of the speech, but I know it was plenty. This is when I realized the key. By giving myself time to fully understand what the speech meant I was able to share with my audience a great summary and …show more content…
If one writes an essay to the best of their ability and then given the opportunity to make even more improvement, the essay can only get better from there. On my first essay I didn 't work as well as I could have on my first draft because I knew I was going to be given time to make it better and I definitely regret it. I could have written a great paper and not had to worry about so many changes, but now I do. By taking my advice they can save a headache. I 'm glad to have successfully completed this course and I am even more excited to begin the next english. Writing is something you cannot escape, from science to the arts writing is always needed. I look forward to continue learning how to improve my

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

Initially, I did not recognize the ways which rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration have affected my writing. As I review my work from this semester, it is quite noticeable that my writing has improved a lot since English IV honors. Writing has been my talent since grade school; I couldn’t sing, or dance but I could write, or so I thought. Then, I entered high school and realized that writing required a lot more than it did in middle school. The brisk pace and advanced comprehension skills required for my English three AP course caused my grades to suffer. I have struggled with college level essay writing tremendously, but through hard-work I have been able to write with more ease and finesse than ever before.…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…

Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

I knew that college writing standards were way much higher than writing standards back in high school. Because the standards were much higher, I had no idea how to reach that standard on my essays. It was quite obvious. The reason why I didn’t know how to write a satisfactory college essay was because I had stopped reading in high school. Once I stopped reading, I missed out on the opportunity of gaining knowledge and information as well as improving my comprehension and analytical skills that I could’ve gained throughout my high school academic years.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

Mistakes cannot always be seen as a negative, as you can move on and correct them to better your knowledge. From my first essay this semester to my last I have seen a vigorous amount of improvement. Not only seen in my grades, but in the way my writing has transitioned between paragraphs and topics. This has helped my work flow more and added a keen sense of intelligence. I have seen much improvement in my essays but have seen the most significant change from my first entrance essay “My season”, to my major events essay “Wayward Feelings”, to my final argumentative essay “A Helpful Hand”.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing.
