Unfortunately, there are times when some evidence can become contaminated. Now contamination is considered to be the introduction of something to a scene that was not previously there (forensicmag.com. n.d.). One way this can occur is if someone is using a tool that was previously used at another crime scene such as a fingerprint brush and some DNA from that scene was still on that tool it could be transferred to that crime scene which could contaminate the evidence that was collected by that tool or brush. The next way it could happen is by the use of old gloves from a previous scene because they can easier become contaminated just by touching some fluids that are on a scene like house cleaning liquids or by a person covering their mouth when they sneeze or even scratching their nose (forensicmag.com. n.d.). Therefore, if any of these things happen the investigator should change their gloves before they touch or collect anything else at the scene. However, they can also contaminate the scene with their footprints. Therefore, one needs to make sure that they cover their shoes with shoe covers before entering the scene because by doing this small thing can make a big difference in the integrity of a case as well when it comes to …show more content…
Therefore, must samples would be packaged in clean unused paper containers like an envelope, paper bag or a packet. However, if the sample is still moist it will be collected in a clean, unused plastic container so that it could be taken to the lab but it must be transported to the lab within two hours of being placed in the plastic container (crime scene investigators.net. n.d.). Furthermore, any item that can cross contaminate another item must be package in a different container or package in order to not cause contamination. Therefore, once the items are package the person who packaged them will put their initials on the actual package with the date and time it was collected as well as a complete description of the evidence, where it was found and the investigating agency’s name and file number (crime scene investigators.net. n.d.). This is done to make sure that if the lab has any question about the sample they can contact the investigator for more information on the
