Today is a very upbeat day. My work went well, which is coaching an 8th grade girl’s basketball team. Our season is just beginning and they are a very special group. There’s not just one person leading the team, they all are leading the team. Each of them have a special skill in basketball. Later tonight I am having dinner with my parents who are both very

Beyond Basketball “You should never stop learning to own words. There are always more words, deeper meanings, and more stories to go with those words. Each time I witness one of these words in action, I come to own it more completely.” stated Mike Krzyzewski, known to many as Coach K. There are multiple words that can be used to explain plentiful situations in life, whether on or off of the basketball court. Some of those words, that do not seem to be right for the position that they are put in, often times will end up making sense.…

My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

I worked like crazy in the garden, made albondigas soup and cooked a pot roast yesterday, which is a good thing for the upcoming weekend. My Costa Rican coffee is outstanding this morning and the weather is gorgeous with blue skies and temperatures in the low 60s and highs in the mid-80s, which is perfect for more gardening and some reading on the patio. Yep, already looking forward to the weekend! I'm so happy Marilyn asked me to do this in her absence because it has me contemplating the things I love most. Every day my friends post images of pets, wildlife, flowers, crafts, quotes and children and I recognize it's a joyful expression of themselves.…

Coaches have had an incredible impact in my life and have shaped who I am beginning with my first Little League coach and on through my current life as an adult. I was 7 years old when I met my first coach in Little League baseball and he taught me much more than the basics of baseball. Coach Lopez was a good man and a strong father figure not only to his son who was my teammate but to all of us. He taught us about respect and love for the game. He taught us to have confidence and respect for all aspects of the game including opponents and umpires.…

Since I wasn't able to visit my eighth graders on our usual schedule (my teaching class had an in-class day to reconnect with each other and learn information for our teaching exam- sad face.) , I felt very happy to go visit my kids today! As I entered Ms. Fentress' room when her AI students were exiting, I realized that these kids are just like high school kids. One boy was jamming out to his music, and even rapped for his classmates. It's always funny to see how their distinct personalities intertwine with one-another to make it a friendly atmosphere.…

Your focus is on the coaches is very important. For student-athletes, coaches are probably the strongest faculty influence in college. My dad is a high school teacher and football coach and the time coaches and players spend in practice, film and lifting weights is more than they have at home or with friends. They even had a meeting this week about NCAA requirements for any players thinking about sports in college. Your focus on getting coaches to work with the CDC is getting faculty directly involved in the process.…
