The Benefits Of Clinical Psychology

Improved Essays
As of right now, many things are changing. Technology and research is growing and enhancing everyday. As far as the medical field goes, that growth is tripled daily by all the new research done by thousands of doctors and scientists across the globe. What I would like to contribute to this growth would be clinical psychology research. Psychology fascinates me in ways that words cannot describe, and the amount of things you could potentially do with psychology are endless. There are so many different types of mental disorders and diseases, but how it affects people is all unique in itself. Psychology is a science within itself, so in order to find new cures and treatments, psychologists have to come up with theories, hypotheses, and then tests. …show more content…
I think it 's absolutely mind-blowing to know the nitty gritty things that go on in our brains so we can do common everyday things. I think it’s incredible how dreams work, how, everyone people see in dreams, have once met before. A person in a dream that seems completely random, that someone could have no relation with, they have met once in their lifetime. Even if the dreamer was little and saw the person in their dream at a convenience store for two seconds the convenience store worker is now a character in the dream. I think it is crazy how everyone has a different psychological personality. How they talk, how they think, how they do things, is all different from the person standing next to you. I feel as if psychology is like a wonderful black hole of learning and new explorations of how the human mind …show more content…
One disorder I would love to specialize in would be Schizophrenia. It is one of the many disorders that scientists and psychologists cannot cure. Although they have found treatments to help, they have not been able to fully cure schizophrenia or even come close to it. Patients still struggle with taking medication since schizophrenia is a personality disorder, patients tend to believe someone is telling them that they are better and do not need to take medication anymore. Some studies believe that electroconvulsive treatments are misunderstood and tend to work best. Scientists don’t even know what fully causes schizophrenia. Scientists believe that schizophrenia is caused genetically and also by the person’s surroundings, also they believe that schizophrenia is caused by an imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Come the future, I believe that technology and research will be so advanced that in the psychological world we could find a cure for schizophrenia and I want to be part of that generation that finds the best working treatment or even cure. I would hope to work with patients directly, learn their habits, learn their triggers and also come up and create a treatment with a team of other psychologists to tend to my patients

I studied brain and behaviour during my first year of clinical medicine, and found that I was particularly intrigued by neuroscience. Throughout my year at Barts and the London, I thought a lot about whether the course was right for me, and began considering other options. I struggled to feel passionate about the course and my future as a doctor, but decided to complete the year to confirm my feeling that a career in medicine was not right for me. During this year, however, I developed a particular interest in the study of the brain, brain development and human behaviour. These lectures became the highlight of the year, and made me really keen to learn more about the subject.…

Graduate School Personal Statement Assignment The earliest memory I have of my fondness for psychology is sitting in my mother’s office, scanning a bookshelf filled with psychology books to find a book with a friendly title. As I was only around nine or ten years old, a friendly title to me was anything that I could reasonably understand, but slowly that changed, and I began choosing the books that interested me. In fact, because my mother was a psychologist, I was able to have long conversations with her about interesting psychology topics, and I would always ask her the different questions that I had. And eventually as I got older, there were two eureka moments that sparked my interest in studying psychology.…

1.What are common misperceptions in psychology and the importance of critical thinking ? When it comes to the misperceptions in psychology, people tend to think psychology is just common sense, its the study of mental illness and or it has no connection with everyday life. Since critical thinking involves the evaluations and analyzation of information for application to different situations, it is important to have the necessary skill to be able to solve a problem and or a situation. Sometimes the conclusions are beyond what is recorded in the data. So it is best to be skeptical than to be accepting of the data.…

Psychology interests me in a profound way. I love exploring the complexity of the human brain and how subtle differences and changes manifest themselves in observable behaviours. I am mostly interested in psychopathology and particularly how they can be explained in a multitude of ways. The well-known Rosenhan’s Experiment (Sane in Insane Places) was one of the studies in psychology which developed my passion for the subject further. The very idea that Psychiatrists could be so consistently wrong and unable to identify who is sane and who is not, demonstrated that our understanding of Psychopathology has still got some way; I am excited to be a part of the community which continues to develop that understanding.…

Two subdivisions within psychology that I find fascinating are abnormal psychology and lifespan and human development. Abnormal psychology dives deep into the mind to diagnose and treat mental disorders individuals may have (Encyclopedia, 2012). This is a subdivision of psychology which most people think about when they hear the word “psychology.” Treatment of mental disorders plays a key role in the science aspect of psychology and its practice seeks to understand how the body affects the mind and how the mind affects the body. This symbiotic relationship is important to understand in this subdivision of psychology.…
