It has been claimed that when kids under 14 years old play physical sports, they become more active. Kevin Burke, a psychologist and director of the sports psychology laboratory, stated to sporting news, “As long as a child is physically and mentally ready, any sport is fine.” On the other hand kids are not ready to play contact sports due to being too active and not doing well in school. Stanley Herring, a clinic professor in the University of Washington’s sport medicine, wrote to the United States News, “While part of the spike is likely due to increased surveillance and awareness, it still outlines a major problem in youth sports.” This quote shows that the kids are being watched over their every move that they do in the sports. Most kids want to play a sport where they can have some freedom to just have fun. In contact sports, if they do not pay attention, they could be taken off of the team due to lack of effort. They may be less active, but they would be much safer and would have fun. If they get a concussion or another injury, they may never be the same. Besides, they could be inside reading a book or just playing outside. Would a parent want to run the risk that his/her child could get badly
