Psychology Career Goals

Choosing a career is a crucial part of a person’s life and most seem to think it is an easy task. More often than not we meet people who are unhappy with their career choice and end up stuck in a profession that leaves them feeling dejected. Up until recently I was unsure of what I wanted to do with my life, however after fluctuating between multiple career choices I decided to pursue my goal of getting a degree in Psychology.

Society is constructed of many different types of people, thus creating problems with how people live and work together. It is in these types of situations that psychology fulfills its function. Psychology seeks to understand and explain a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Getting a degree in child psychology is not something that can be obtained instantly, depending on the level of the degree a person is trying to acquire it can take them anywhere from six to nine years. Currently I am working on the first step towards achieving my goal, which is getting my bachelor’s degree. Although there are employment opportunities available for those who attain their bachelor’s degree the options however are limited. For individuals, like me, who are looking to work in the private sector must obtain a PhD, complete a one year supervised American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship, take and pass the state licensing test. Although to gain the necessary education to reach my goal is going to be long and difficult I am looking forward to helping children cope and understand their
