Competitive Cheer Leading Essay

From pom-poms to back handsprings cheer leading has evolved, yet kept the same foundation as before. Cheerleaders still wear short skirts and pump up the crowd during a winning home basketball game but what most people do not know is cheerleaders have found their own way to show off their athletic abilities. However, they are not showing them on the sideline of a football or basketball game. These girls will be flipping, jumping, and stunting on the blue mats in front of seven judges and a crowd of up to 200 people, who are cheering on their favorite cheerleaders. Although some may argue cheer leading is nothing but "standing and yelling cheers on the sideline" they will be surprised to know how much cheer leading has transformed into something even better then what is shown in the movies. Cheerleaders are nothing more than athletes and competitive cheer leading is not only a sport but also a passion. Competitive cheer leading is a sport and here is why. Cheer is not a sport where practicing for two hours is enough. Oh no, in order to be perfect, these athletes must practice until they are perfect. Also, think one person on the squad can take a sick day or go to a dentist appointment during practice? Absolutely not! If one person does not show up to practice, that means that entire stunt group cannot practice their stunt, which means they cannot practice until they are perfect, which leads to them not being perfect and ultimately the team not being perfect and losing a grip on that first place trophy.
