A charity sports event is a participatory sports event that raises funds for a charitable cause from the participants and the public in exchange for their presence at the event (Woolf et al., 2013). Several factors have contributed towards the popularity of charity sports events. Marathons, cycling events and even matches that are sponsored by voluntary organizations are considered as critical components in enhancing community prestige as well as promoting a healthier lifestyle (Edwards & Tsouros, 2008). Stakeholders are affected by the success or failure of these events and they also influence the organization throughout its working life. These individuals with respect to the charity sports match can be students, sports fans, sponsors, retailers, advertisement companies, the public and so on. Without the active and ongoing involvement of stakeholders, it would be difficult for an organization to survive in the market as companies and stakeholders are mutually dependent on one another.
In addition to the normative reasons of why stakeholders are significant, they are also essential for the organizations performance. When a company possesses a strong, long term relationship with its stakeholders, the business runs efficiently, and they also have a better chance of earning higher profits. Word of mouth from one student to the other gives the event more attention and enables more people to get to know about the match taking place. The presence of A-list players would increase people’s attention towards the occasion and attract a larger audience. As the event being talked about here is a sports match, it would gain immense popularity among the students as well as the people who enjoy playing or watching the sport.
