It didn’t help that I was also participating in a new program for the school and only a small amount of people were joining. The 21st Century Program was supposed to introduce a technology based learning environment. I wasn’t sure if the program was going to help improve my literacy skills or make them worse, but I had to take the risk and find out the results. The first day of school always made me feel as if I had butterflies in my stomach, dying a little bit on the inside not knowing how my year was going to go. Entering English class, the sight of the teacher, a few students already in their seats, I sat in the desk nearest to the teacher, she seemed kind, sharing a big smile as more students arrived.…

Moving schools away from all of my friends should’ve been an appalling experience, surprisingly, it was a blessing in disguise. I went to Agnes Baptist Elementary from kindergarten to 5th grade and I had friends that I've known since I was 3. I loved it there and knew the school like the back of my hand. Everything was superior, like most good things, though there were times where they weren’t, I was harassed by a bully almost everyday, my grades were getting inadequate, and my mom didn’t want me to be a sad, disconsolate 7th grader at a new junior high. In the result, I moved and I went to Savage Middle School, a school that had 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.…

My school offered opportunities for the students to get ahead and build lasting connections with professionals. The classroom sizes were fairly small so teachers were able to memorize student’s names and familiarize themselves with each individual. Due to the equal resource disbursement I was able to thrive in my schooling environment. Building a robust relationship with my science teacher was able to earn me an internship with a dentist that was her friend and exhort me to mobilize upwards in society. From interning for the dentist it opened doors to more internships and opportunities that I was able to access and turn into social capital.…

She thought she would be unhappy with the switch at first, in fact, she was worried about her friends and whether west would actually be better. Megan was very nervous but ultimately decided that switching would be better than her previous situation. Like Megan, I felt worried about my first day at middle school. I knew nobody, most of the people from my elementary school went to Horning and my best friend was going to attend Butler.…

I was able to perceive reading and writing in a more deeper and understanding level, actually see the purpose behind it all. People sometimes do something and never really asked, “why?” I feel like that’s what I was missing in high school. Seems like Teachers follow a linear teaching style and never question the course curriculum they have to follow. Never go into a more understanding of what a course is about.…

Today my parents asked me how school went. I wanted to respond with "Horrible, I never want to go back", but it's only one week since I've started the 10th grade. Therefore, I responded with the same "fine" I have been responding with since 7th grade. To be honest, I sometimes make it seem worse than it is. I could actually try to be positive, smile while I walk down the halls, laugh at unamusing jokes, seem like I actually want to be there with everyone else.…
