The Importance Of Change In Life

The alarm clock rang. The day starts as an average Tuesday morning would. I squirmed in bed until I finally got the courage to sit up and slither out of the warm, silky covers. After I wiped my eyes I then trudged to the clock and pounded the alarm button. The next struggle was when I came face to face with my closet. I tried on several outfits and decided to go with my favorite jeans and t-shirt. It’s funny how those small things can seem like challenges to us. I continued my routine and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair when I bumped into my dad. He told me that he was going to be home from work the next few days, because he had to return to the hospital where they had taken my grandpa earlier that morning. When it is happening they often think that it will never end and nothing will ever be normal again. Even then, time passes and things get easier. No one really admits it, but things don’t go back to normal. There is one thing that will never change though and that is change itself. I’m a strong believer in change. It is the only thing one can really expect from life. Sitting around the dinner table at past family holidays I often heard the adults chattering over their warm meals about how disgraceful our generation is or how things have changed so much since they were my age. I’ve often walked into an older family restaurant and have found a picture of the building as it stood 60 years ago. Just as it is inevitable that I had to watch my little baby cousin grow into a toddler, teenager, and young adult. Change is all around us. Some things I could choose to change, but one can only control so much of life. I couldn’t control anything that happened to my cousin or my grandpa; Adam could not do anything to change the situation of his father or mother’s health. It is probably best that way. If we never had to face things unexpectedly then we wouldn’t really be living. Life isn’t about making perfect decisions all the time; it is about making a decision and dealing with it. My dad has often told me that we are dealt cards, but it’s our choice to keep them or get new ones. I agree with my dad and also with Shepard when he reflects on his journey and concludes that the lives we live are mirrored by the lives of our parents or environments. I, like Shepard, have had many people influence my life. The morals and values I hold are no doubt a reflection of my upbringing. Some of Shepard’s critics believe that his story is unimportant because of influences and experiences he cannot

ADDICTIONS: ACTIVITY 1.4 Canada’s drug plan and involves any strategy or behaviour that individuals use to reduce the potential harm that may exist. Harm-reduction lifts the stigma that prevents many individuals from seeking treatment. Csiernik asserts that harm-reduction interventions are facilitative rather than coercive and are grounded in the needs of individuals (2011). In determining where individuals are at in treatment, a motivational interviewing approach is a useful technique and tool in assessing the individuals stage of readiness in therapy. I was all packed and ready to set off on my 10 day adventure to H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation but all that's in my way is about 12 hours and 9 of them I’m going restless because I’m so excited and I keep my dad up by asking him questions but when I have an important one he’s gone “MOM wheres Dad.” I said “he’s seeing his mom,” with a couple of tears running down her face “ It will probably going to be the last time he sees her” and I remember that she is in the hospital. It has been about 5 ½ months since she has been diagnosed with glioblastoma.…

Throughout the years many things have happened to shape how our society sees things. Also how technology has changed not only in improvements but also for every aspect of human life. It is crazy how many major events have changed the world mentally and physically. Many of the bad situations we have dealt with come from someone who was raised a certain way with a certain opinion and will not change for the life of themselves. What is sad, is the fact that the things that started many of our now big problems was something as simple as slavery.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

I rocked gently back and forth on the park swing, my brother Ryan staring up at the sky next to me. None of the other kids would come near us. They pointed and whispered in their groups, giving us looks of disgust. “Come on, Ryan,” I said, tired of the parent pulling their children closer to themselves as we passed by, “let’s go home.” We walked down an old dirt path that led behind the trees and kicked a rock along the way.…

It is important that the message be sent loud and clear to all employees within the organization that the change must be attacked with an extreme sense of urgency. It is also important for the top level of the organization to have a realistic plan in implementing change. Many times top level management overestimates how many big changes they can force early on. They also underestimate how hard it is to drive people out of their comfort zones (Kotter, 1996). In order to achieve this management must create a powerful…
