Political censorship is the suppression of information and ideas by the official government (American Civil Liberties Union, n.d). Governments will suppress information for the positive view of the country and prevent opposing views about the government, allowing for prolonged standing. In Libya the Prime Minister has removed any negative independent broadcasting of information or print media, which is similar in Turkmenistan, where "cross censorship" has been introduced therefore creating an atmosphere of fear and in North Korea there is no independent journalists or broadcasting information available.

Alongside these added suppressions Gaddafi erased all Italians from Libya and published a book about his political philosophy where he illustrates the problems within liberal democracy and capitalism relating to this he promoted his policies as the only solution (Biography, n.d.). Furthermore he wrote about Libya’s popular committees and shared ownership, which was false. In 1993 Qaddafi acquired the power of the revolutionary bureaucracy therefore leading to the removal of all importance of tribe and traditions held in Libya and also the removal of all state power (Council on Foreign, 2011). Positions of power were not shared amongst the public but close friends and family members of Gaddafi therefore creating further corruption where many members of public were living in poverty and those in power positions accumulated large amounts of fortune. Gaddafi’s style of ruling was strange as he required his female body guards to dress in heels, considered himself the king of Africa, while abroad he slept in tents protected by his female bodyguards and dressed in strange costume-like outfits which occasionally distracted from his brutality giving him the nickname of “mad dog” by Ronald Reagan (Telegraph, 2013). There is zero tolerance for any independent journalists or broadcasts and furthermore all radios, television receivers and internet access is locked onto government specified frequencies. Not to mention that it is a serious offence to meddle with the sets to be able to hear radio or television frequencies from outside of North Korea or using a cell phone has been banned since 2004 (Zeller, 2006). All news that is broadcasted is positive and according to the media in North Korea, they have not ever suffered from famine or poverty and that citizens would sacrifice themselves for their leader (CPJ, n.d.). Additionally the government censoring North Korea, they also attempt to control other countries media information (Sargent, 2013). The Official Korean Central News Agency states that “leader Kim Jong II is so beloved that during a train explosion, members of the public ran into their houses, preferring to save the portraits of their ‘dear leader’ before their family members. With these censorship rules this means that only a certain amount of foreign journalists is allowed access but must be accompanied by ‘minders’ which follow them around. Kim Jong II uses political censorship for halting opposing views about the government.
