Why Cell Phones Should Not Be Allowed In School

Nowadays owning a cell phone is not an option, but a priority. The number of people owning mobile phones has increased dramatically. While some individuals will agree that giving the permission for students to have a cellular device in the school is perfectly fine, others do not. Want students to have better improvement on their schooling? Take away the smartphones. A recent survey indicates sixty-eight percent of students in grades six through twelve bring their cell phones to school on a regular basis (Smock). However, they are not just for calling, but one can now text, take and send pictures, record videos, access the Internet, play games, and much more. Thus, more young people own cell phones. Due to this situation, mobile phones have become an ongoing issue in schools, especially high schools. Allowing cell phones in schools is giving students the ability to take their attention elsewhere. A dilemma arose on whether they should be allowed or not. Mobile phones should not be allowed in schools because of various reasons. A few examples are distractions, cheating, social problems, and illegal activity/usage. One …show more content…
One of the most common reasons to allow the use of cell phones in school is for safety purposes. Parents worry for the teenagers’ safety. A parent of child which attends a local school in New York agrees she says, "I think that kids should bring cell phones to school," contends Julien. "When they go to school, their parents want to know where they are going to be." (Malcolm). By allowing cell phones, it permits the parent in knowing the child is safe. Also, if they can text, they will be able to explain future plans after-school which may have come up throughout the school day. Sickness spread like wildfire in schools; therefore, a child could text or call home faster. This would be faster than going to the office, resulting in reducing germs throughout the
