An eleven-year-old child is not ready for a cell phone. At this age, they do not have a reason or need for a personal cell phone. A child in this age range has not matured. This still does not constitute a child this small possessing a cell phone. When a child is in sports, their parents should be involved. On the off chance they can’t attend, a friend’s parents or their coach should be able to provide a device to call with. When an elementary aged child spends the night with a friend, it is the responsibility of the other parents to provide a device for calling. At these ages kids do not have jobs, they could be involved in sports, and they may visit or spend the night with a friend. None of these instances provide a dire need for possession of a cell phone.
