The Importance Of Caring For Older Adults

Our entrance into this world is not an episodic memory. The only things any of us knows about the day we came into this world are what we have been told by others. Many people have repeatedly told me that if at all possible I should not get old. As I have watched others, dear friends and loved ones, grow older they talk not only about the symptoms of their bodies state of deteriorating and becoming a burden but also there is a fear of our psychological state as we age. The importance is in how to care for the aging individual and how give them the best care we possibly can. Carissa Gehl, PhD gave a presentation on Caring For the Older Adult to educate on how to best be able to assess and provide for the needs of the dear individuals in our lives from an older generation. Emphasizing developmental considerations in the aging particularly in neurological functioning. Dr. Gehl is a neuropsychologist on staff with the VAHCS (veterans health clinics) here in Cedar Rapids. As part of her work she assesses individuals for a variety of neurocognitive disorders and changes in cognitive functioning.
