Why I Want To Achieve My Career Goals

I was young in college and when I went to school the first time, I didn’t have a reason to be there. I just liked learning and I didn’t really know what else to do. This time it’s different. I am the sole provider for my kids. Not having a degree is a major impediment to me moving much beyond my current position. For my family this means that we could be forever tied to a modest income. We may not be able to buy a home in a good part of town which would prevent my kids from being able to attend the best schools. There are so many things now that rely on me being able to achieve my career goal of becoming a department manager, and one day a partner or owner of a company like the one I am currently working for. This degree will ensure I am not passed up for promotions because I lack the credentials. I was narrowly awarded the position I have now based on merit but I am the only person at my level of the organization that doesn’t have a degree. It’s no longer a nice to have, it’s a must have for me and my families’ future.
To understand why I didn’t graduate from my previous university and the reason my GPA is below your transfer standards I need to give you some context. My senior year of high school I got an offer to study at Azusa Pacific University on scholarship, and I took it. Going into it, I wasn’t certain college was for me. Academic achievement had been relatively easy for me in high school but I had grand plans of becoming an entrepreneur. My father and his father before him had become very successful without any further education out of high school. I didn’t think a bachelors would make a big difference in my life so I didn’t take it too seriously. Not only was I unprepared psychologically, I was fearful of getting into debt.
