The Importance Of Career Choices

Decent Essays
At a young age, most children have an unrealistic or maybe even impossible career goal. While working at a child care center I had the opportunity to hear some very imaginative four year-olds share their ideas on what they wanted to be when they grow up. I heard everything from baseball player, to ballerina, to wrestler, to a chicken. Odds are, none of these children will become what they said, epically the chicken. However, these children have a better idea of their future than I do. For the past year I have had my mind set on law school, but since beginning my freshman year of college my view the future is not as clear as it used to be. I have a big heart for children, but I also believe that I would be very successful in the field of business. I have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that the decision I make today will affect the rest of my life. Over the past few months I have been wavering …show more content…
I had only taken career quizzes in high school, but never for myself. Now that I have done this project, I take career quizzes all the time in search for ideas for my future. I have learned that there are more factors that go into a career choice than just money, passion for the career, and more money. This project was definitely a challenge for me. It highlighted something I have been ignoring for months. The transition from high school to college has not been an easy one, so I guess I thought that ignoring the fact that I had to make a career choice would make it go away. Change has never been easy for me. I have been in one building from Pre-K to 12th Grade. I have only had one basketball coach from middle school to high school. My teachers never changed all four years of high school. So now that everything is making a full 360, it is hard for me to wrap my head around it all. This project has really made an impact on my career choice. Now I will search more on my future, and focus less on my

The question of our childhood seemed to be one that we can all recall: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Typically, we would say things like, “I want to be an astronaut,” or, “I want to be a princess.” As kids, we think big; however, as we get older, we figure that these aspirations to be a ballerina, to be the president, become more farfetched. Instead, we set more day-to-day based goals. Our goals change all the time.…

Such a simple question, yet, if I was to be completely honest the answer was that I had no clue. That is, until the start of my sophomore year of high school when I decided to take AP Psychology. I didn’t know too much about the subject…

All throughout my childhood, it seemed that whenever my parents introduced me to somebody---relative, stranger, teacher, playmate--- I would be bombarded by a series of inquiries, my newfound acquaintance seeking to evaluate me as an individual. However, out of all the questions my interrogator could have selected, one always seemed to be the most prevalent: What do you want to be when you grow up? The answer varied day by day: age 5-“a firefighter!” age 7-“a marine biologist!”…

if there is one thing college has taught me, it is that it does not matter what you think you are going to become, or how far back you start from, but it is that determination in the place of those disadvantages is what makes all the difference. I did not choose to be a lawyer because anyone in my family was, in fact, no one in my family worked anything close to it. My mother has worked as a waitress, a seamstress in a factory, and finally as a baker since arriving in this country. I took it upon myself to try and become something more, something that my mother did not have the opportunity to be. As the oldest child in a house of three I fulfilled the function of the interpreter in the family, which gave me the sense of responsibility and maturity that came with that role.…

Do you remember being so young yet so bold that you would tell everyone around you the wonderful things you were going to accomplish once you were an adult? In my case, I would go around revealing that I was going to become the president of the united states or a teacher because my teacher, at the time, didn’t teach accordingly to what I wanted. Currently, as I am nearing the end of my high school career, I flash back to those fearless moments wondering where everyone, including myself, put those boundless goals and dreams. I now know that I need to take down those mental barriers and tell myself that I can not only achieve whatever I put my mind to, but also believe that I will be very passionate about it.…

Throughout my life, I have had many different ideas of what career I should aim to have when I finish my education and become an independent. In early elementary school, I remember wanting to be an artist “when I grew up,” and for all of middle school, I was almost obsessed with the idea of owning my own bakery and decorating cakes when I graduated from school. It wasn’t really until high school until I gave any serious thought to what type of career I should stride towards, or any serious thought to what meaning I wanted my life to have. In high school, I took many interesting and challenging classes, got to know a lot of very good teachers, and got involved in a multitude of diverse extracurricular activities.…
