Personal Experience: My Milligan College Experience

The most important criteria that I have is probably the environment and campus life of the school. My biggest worry is getting to college and not being able to find people that I can fit in with, and the campus culture being very different than mine. Along with the culture, I also like a very small environment and class size. I feel like with a smaller student body and class size, students can connect better with one another and with professors, which I really want in a college. Environment can also include things like dorms, clubs, intramurals, and campus size. These will most likely be the most important factor in my decision. USI is easily the largest and the only public college on my list. If I end up going to a public college, USI will …show more content…
I went to a campus visit there, and it seemed very fake to me, which I can not handle very well. It could have just been the few people that I was in contact with though. I see a much different picture of Milligan on their website than I did when I actually went there. There is a lot to do and seems like a fun campus. There are not supposed to be any drugs or alcohol, which seems to definitely be enforced. There is just something about them though that comes across as fake, which really rubbed me the wrong way. The dorm rooms were very tiny, and each hall shares a bathroom, which I really do not like. The idea of that just does not sound appealing to me at all. The dorms also did not seem to be super nice or sanitary. The outside looked nice, but it was a very different picture on the inside. There are lots of intramurals at Milligan, and students seem to be involved in them. One positive about the environment is that everybody seems to know each other. When I was on my tour, my student guide talked to everyone and knew everyone by name, which is a great sign to see. The students seem to be very close and connected, which is exactly what I want. With 1,200 students also, this is what I like to consider the perfect size. They offer lots of clubs that I would be interested, including an Ultimate Frisbee club. Things …show more content…
The cost of attendance is obviously a large factor, and USI is probably the most affordable option right now, although Grace could very easily become the cheapest. From an academic standpoint, Grace offers exactly what I want, and seems to be very strong in those areas. I could go there and get what I want quickly, and be prepared for multiple careers. From a campus environment perspective, Grace is probably my favorite option too. Their campus looks nice, it is the perfect size, and they offer lots of activities that I would enjoy being a part of. After weighing all of my options and figuring out what is really important to me, Grace College is definitely the place that I would feel most at home, and would set me up for success in life and

A big deficiency on the emergency plan was it was not up to date, by any means. It had the wrong name for the police chief, did not include threat assessment teams, and the police were placed low in the ‘decision making hierarchy’ (Schaenman, 2009). The police agencies and security officials of the university did not believe that a lockdown of the university was even possible because of its size. There were no cameras in dormitory areas, leaving the identity of Cho unknown until found at the scene. The VTPD and BPD were trained and practiced active shooter scenarios.…

Many of the personal goals that I set at the beginning of this semester have become somewhat different and I actually achieved a small portion of them. As I came into college I thought that I would have very difficult time with making new friends and socializing with my peers around me. But to my surprise I was actually pretty decent at it, with that being said one of the goals that I had set for myself was to “Make friends.” Currently I have many different people in my life that weren’t there before, whether it be all the people that live on the floor in my residence hall and even many of my classmates have all had super big impacts on my life. Another goal that I had set for myself was to be more open-minded when it came to going out and trying new things. I think that I have done a pretty job at doing so, I have been to going to many different events.…
