Self-Worth In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men

People bully because they aren’t confident, because they feel useless and not important. If they were are above someone else, they feel better about their worth. They bully the weaker because they want to seem more important and confident in their abilities. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck is about two men, George and Lennie, as they try to find work and achieve their dream during the Great Depression. It starts just after George and Lennie leave their previous job and find a new ranch. At the ranch, some people are viewed worse than they are. They are affected by the words of others and it causes them to feel less important. As a result, they start doing anything they can in order to make themselves feel self-worth. Using the characters of Curley and Curley’s wife, Steinbeck manifests the idea that people prey on the weakness of others in order to achieve self-preservation. Curley, who is the son of the boss, shows that people find weaknesses in order to increase their personal confidence.
