During the interview of Mrs. Hilda Powell, when asked the question, “How helpful was the emotional, physical, and financial support from family, friends and those around you?”, she responded with “The emotional, physical, and financial support from family, friends, and those around you is very important. To feel that others are concerned, and that they love and care about you, confirms to you that you are not alone or are in your situation by yourself.” (Primary Source 1). Mrs. Armanda O’Leary was asked the same question as Mrs. Powell, “How helpful was the emotional, physical, and financial support from family, friends, and those around you?”. Her response was, “It was very helpful whether it was preparing meals, or paying bills. It lifted the burden.”. (Primary Source 2). Both Mrs. Powell and Mrs. O’Leary were diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2014. They have been officially declared cancer-free, but are still going through the process of Radiation. Their will to live and trust in God is what has helped bring them through. Whether people have encountered this disease first-hand with a family member or being diagnosed themselves, as Mrs. Powell and Mrs. O’Leary have, they will have been forever affected by breast cancer. It is now up to the citizens of America to make the decision to do their part in supporting breast cancer patients, survivors, and their families, whether it’s emotionally, physically, or financially.
