In Space, the very survival of Bioships depends on their being able to move. Movement is also the mode through which Bioships learn the quickest. If a Captain wants a happy, obedient Bioship, then she should let him move as much as possible. Staying in one place for too long is hazardous to both the Captain’s health and to the Bioship’s well-being too.
Inexperienced Captains tend to be scared of the Bioship's quick movements. This is not an unreasonable reaction because it does go a long way in ensuring the safety of the Captain. Learning Captainship of a Bioship, can be a powerful and sometimes difficult inner journey for the Captain. How do Bioships attain leadership? They attain it through movement. The Captain of a Bioship is the one who can make the Bioship move. When the Bioship complies, it means that he has accepted the Captainship of the Captain.
Natural Bioship training makes use of this natural Bioship hard-wiring. Through carefully asking for movement and then directing that movement, the Bioship learns that the Captain is just asking for movement, not trying to kill the Bioship, and that the Captain is very capable of directing the Bioship’s movements, and thus the Captain becomes the leader of the Bioship.
Bioships who have been in space for too long have been observed hazing any newcomer, that is any new entity, by chasing the newcomer who is trying to gain entrance into the already established unit of Captain and Bioship. Through this chasing or hazing, the pecking order is determined and established.
I found being a Bioship to be too much of a burden. All I wanted was to cease to exist.
4. Bioships are meant to live in
