Choosing Greater Health

Thinking clearly, communicating ideas, creating positive relationships, and choosing greater health is part of life. Many learn some of these earlier than others; like communicating ideas, others are learned in later on in life. This week we discussed ways to use these ideas to help us become better students. One I will talk about is choosing greater health ;also how this entwines in my life and ways I try to keep myself healthy Knowing about your health is common sense to many people but knowing and doing are two different things. (Ellis,2013,p.125) I know what is healthy for my body and what’s not, but even though I do; I still choose to do habits that are unhealthy for me. (Ellis,2013,p.125) Studies shown, students with lower grades, get less sleep and are not active. (Ellis,2013,p.125) When I was in high school I always had volleyball, a weights class, or both at the same time to keep me in shape. This helped me stay focused during classes and it was easier to fall asleep at night. When volleyball ended, I still had weights class, but I also started to work again; this caused me to get home late. When I had homework that was due the next day, I would have to stay up longer to finish it or leave it unfinished and go to bed. This caused me to be tired and groggy all the time. during my classes, I would lose focus and fall asleep. This caused me to lose out on notes and fall behind during class and miss important information. The one class I would always fall asleep in was math. I would focus at first ;then the tiredness would hit me and I would be gone. I fell behind in class, I struggled to catch up with everyone. I finally, I changed my work schedule to where I got off an hour earlier and I had an extra day off. This allowed me to get more sleep and in return, I was able to stay focused during my classes. (Ellis,2013,p.125) Health is a key to being successful in school, at work, etc. That’s why developing healthy habits early in life could be key to living a successful, healthy, long life. Keeping track of what you eat and going to the gym or even going on walks everyday to exercise are ways you can keep healthy. Doing these simple things can impact your life by preventing high blood pressure, keep your cognitive function intake when you’re older and can reduce your risk of getting certain cancers.
